Good People

How do you define a ‘good person’?

Someone who doesn’t pray but always respect others, polite and humble. Is he/she a good person?

Someone who takes drugs but never harmed anyone. Can you consider them as good people?

People who seem pious but speak ill of people around them. Are they good people?

You see, it’s so subjective that’s why it’s not wise to judge if someone is a good or a bad person.

To me, no matter how people lead their lives and no matter what they do for themselves, for their lives, as long as they don’t hurt or harm anyone in any way, I can consider them good people.

I have a friend who used to sleep around, drink, gamble but he was always caring and kind towards his family and friends. He stopped doing some of the bad stuffs and he said he wanted to be a good person.

I asked him why because I don’t think he’s a bad person. He just did bad things that could be harmful to himself. And if he wants to stop, that’s good for him and if he doesn’t that’s up to him, it’s his life.

I don’t judge people on what they do with their lives. We know how people are by how they treat other people around them.

It is a subjective concept, I agree. I like how you are willing to question the dualistic nature of good and bad, when in fact this whole series of goodness depends on the context in which the action is judged. We should always keep that in mind before passing our own judgements. I couldn’t agree more with what you said. Thank you for the kind reminder. :)
